Buzz 9 to 5?
As I write this in my company standard 4m X 4m cubicle, with my HP standard keyboard, wearing my corprate Bee-suit ( black pants, semi-formal shirt with black shoes). I can’t help but feel my individuality draining into the big corprate abyss, the hive.
I mean is this it? I spent 12 years at school, 3 years at University (ok be honest, 4 years) and maybe a year or two finding myself by getting lost in Thailand. Sixteen years just to end up behind some desk doing some meaningless little task. What really gets me is the Buzz-talk, the little phrases and words that all the little worker bees use so they fit in, so they are just like all the little other dumb bees in the hive, “the way forward”, “in a nutshell”. The plastic friendliness and “How are you’s”, I know you really dont give a freddy about how I am today, you just want to seem friendly so the PM or Manager sees what a good team player you are.
Ok the mind-numbing work, the empty concern and even the little phrases I can deal with. But there is one thing I really cant handle, by some magic twist of fate or maybe my PM is just sadistic. The thing that really pisses me of is how the most irritating person in the whole company alwaus ends up sitting in close proximity to your desk. Everything about him or her just irritates you, the way they walk, the way the talk, the way they dress, the way they day-dream and pull out their hair to make little hair-balls before tossing it over onto the floor. Somehow this person always ends up sitting directly opposite or right next to you. You have no way of escaping them, you have to greet them every morning cause they are on your way to your desk. They insist on sharing their “What I did this weekend..” stories, if I wanted to know what you did over the past weekend I would have camped out-side your window and taken snapshots using a paparazzi-type long range camera then sold them to National Geogrpahic so the whole world can see what a freak you are!!
Well I feel my caffeine addiction calling me … so off to the cafeteria
